Presentation Evening – 2023 Trophy and Award Winners

Our Walkers Guernsey Women’s Golf Development Squad recently concluded a remarkable year with an end-of-year presentation dinner at Vistas. This marked the culmination of a full program comprising intensive training and spirited competitions for our dedicated squad of almost 60 members.

Now entering its sixth year, the squad has consistently played a pivotal role in fostering women’s golf on the island. Throughout this journey, we’ve witnessed a remarkable transformation in the confidence and competitive spirit of our women, as they eagerly strive to enhance their skills and excel in competitive matches. This evolution aligns perfectly with our initial goals, and we are thrilled with the progress made.

The evening at Vistas was attended by the majority of squad members, and Matt Sanders, Managing Partner of Walkers – our new sponsor, presented prizes to our deserving winners. Angela Goddard, Squad Chairman, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Walkers for its sponsorship, emphasising the vital role they play in promoting and developing women’s golf in Guernsey.

Veronica Bougourd enjoyed a stellar year, receiving the Le Dixieme Trophy, Scratch Trophy, Net Trophy, and earning the title of the best nett winner in various competitions at the Royal Guernsey Golf Club. Her achievements make her a true inspiration to all golfers on the island.

Chloe Gallagher-Brackley, a newcomer to Guernsey and the Squad, was honoured with the Pro-choice trophy for La Grande Mare. This recognition was a testament to her unwavering commitment to the squad’s training and competitions, regardless of the weather. Additionally, she earned her first cap representing the island in the annual inter-insular clash against Jersey.

In the A and B Squads, young talents Chloe Gaudion and Lily McNeela achieved significant handicap reductions. Similarly, Julie Domaille and Liz Girauld from Jethou Squad and Herm Squad, respectively, showcased commendable progress.

Lily McNeela’s accomplishments went even further, as she was awarded the Most Improved Junior trophy. Angela Goddard praised Lily for her outstanding achievements this year and wished her continued success in 2024.

As we approach the winter months, our squads remain active, participating in competitive league matches to stay sharp before the season recommences in April. This ongoing dedication reflects the squad’s commitment to continuous improvement and sets the stage for another exciting year ahead.
