The 2024 Guernsey Women’s Golf Development Squad (GWGDS) trophy presentation evening was a true celebration of the spirit of golf, bringing together squad members, sponsors, coaches, and organisers to honour a season filled with dedication, improvement, and inspiring achievements.
Held in November, it was an opportunity to reflect on just how far the squad has come this year and to recognise some standout performers.
A special mention goes to Di Stenner, whose consistent good play throughout the season saw her take home two of the three main trophies: Le Dixieme Trophy, awarded to the outstanding player of the year, and the Scratch Trophy. She also won the Pro’s Choice in her category. Her hard work and steady improvement have made her a shining example of what focus and dedicated practice can achieve. Congratulations, Di!
We were also thrilled to present the Junior Girls’ Trophy, for the second year running, to Lily McNeela, as the most improved junior, and Mary Bate, who won the Net Trophy, recognising her consistent results throughout the season.
A very special thank you goes to Ilona Iordache, representing Walkers, who kindly joined us to present the trophies and prizes. We’re so grateful to Walkers for its ongoing support of the GWGDS programme — this backing makes it possible for all our players, from beginner level right through to those in the Island Squad, to continue to benefit from top-level coaching from our RGGC PGA golf professionals.
While it was wonderful to celebrate our winners, the evening was also a tribute to the progress seen across the entire squad. Every member has made strides — whether in technique, confidence, or mindset — and that collective effort is what makes GWGDS such a special group.
As we look ahead to a new season, we do so with pride in how far we’ve come and excitement for what lies ahead. Here’s to another year of growth, support, and great golf!
