The Guernsey Women’s Golf Development Squad were delighted to welcome a team of ladies from Sonning Golf Club, headed by Lady Captain Claire Randell, on their recent trip to Guernsey.
This much-anticipated four-ball better ball match was played with great team spirit and camaraderie. The final result of a halved match; Sonning Ladies 3, Guernsey Women’s Golf Development Squad 3, reflected how evenly matched the players from both sides were.
The teams were treated to a warm and sunny October day, giving near-perfect conditions for the match played at La Grande Mare Golf Club. Our grateful thanks go to La Grande Mare for kindly hosting this event and providing us with a course in superb condition.
The favourable conditions brought out some high-quality golf and closely contested matches from both sides. The Development Squad got off to a fast start with a win in match 1 and the first point on the board for GWGDS. The next match was halved, followed by a win in match 3 for Sonning to even the scores 1½ each. Match 4 gained the next win for GWGDS and match 5 was halved. At this point, the match was 3 – 2 in GWGDS’s favour and all hinged on the final match. In a close match, the final point was won by Sonning Ladies on the 18th green, leveling the scores for the final result of a halved match.
These matches greatly benefit the Development Squad in advancing the players’ skills and match-play experience.
We look forward to hopefully having another match with the Sonning Ladies next year!

The matches were played in a spirit of great camaraderie & competitive fun with the overall score of the match halved. Both teams enjoyed a meal out with a view of the West Coast sunset which was a visual & culinary treat for the visitors.
